Background: Accurate data are critical for public health surveillance yet can be challenging to ensure. The Tennessee (TN) HPV Vaccine IMPACT Project aims assess the effectiveness of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in prevention cervical cancer and high-grade dysplasia through laboratory reporting pathology results among Davidson County women. This project assessed feasibility value use administrative sources improved quality completeness events TN HPV-IMPACT between 2013-2017.

Lyme disease is underreported in the United States. We used insurance administrative claims data to determine the value of such data in enhancing case ascertainment in Tennessee during January 2011-June 2013. Although we identified ≈20% more cases of Lyme disease (5/year), the method was resource intensive and not sustainable in this low-incidence state.

To determine the number of emergency department visits attributable to influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 in Davidson County, Tennessee, USA, we used active, population-based surveillance and laboratory-confirmed influenza data. We estimated ≈10 visits per 1,000 residents during the pandemic period. This estimate should help emergency departments prepare for future pandemics.
